It is with pleasure to
announce the District 4 Speech & Literacy Blog. We are very excited about
this sharing tool as we can continue to communicate and share best practices
throughout the summer.
The Speech & Literacy
Initiative is a program that will provide intense early literacy instruction to
kindergarten and first grade students. Though this program-experienced speech
therapist will work closely with school administrators and classroom teachers
using evidenced based materials, provided by The Division of Specialized
Instruction and Student Support (DSISS).
GOALS
Provide our early learners with foundational building blocks
needed to become successful readers, listeners and speakers.
Provide opportunities for participating speech therapists
and classroom teachers to share experiences applying best practices with
teachers school wide, so all students benefit.
The program is designed to be flexible and responsive to the
unique needs and preferences of each school.
Some schools may choose to build upon and extend existing literacy
based methods and programs while others may choose to develop a new approach
using materials and best practices identified by DSISS and a team expert.
